Classifying

Remember that the definition of a polygon is a closed plane figure formed by 3 or more segments that intersect only at their endpoints. Polygons can be classified by the number of sides, length of sides, and whether they are convex or concave.

You are most familiar with the names of polygons according to the number of sides. For example a three sided closed figure is a triangle and a four sided closed figure is a quadrilateral. Other commonly used polygons and their names are below.
